School Holiday Singing, Dance & Drama Workshops are held in the Summer January, Autumn April, Winter July, and Spring October school holidays to provide local youth with an intensive singing, dance and drama development program. The program is designed to develop skills and an appreciation for performing in all aspects of theatre. Experienced and professional teachers coach the students in age appropriate groups in sessions throughout the day. Aspects of performing and coaching in the “audition” process are included. Guest presenters such as a professional successful singers, actors and dancers are often invited to share a session speaking about their experiences with the students A Concert is held on day 4 which showcase some of what has been worked on over the 4 days. All students perform in this concert which goes for approximately one hour. Parents and friends are invited to attend free. Personal development is a critical outcome from the workshops and success in this area is reflected in parent comments such as “he made new friends and is generally happier person since the workshop” and “she has so much more confidence in herself” as well as “he had so much fun and can’t wait until the next workshop”. The benefits of attending a workshop include making new friends, improve self confidence, providing a broader talent base for Theatre productions, increase awareness in the community of Ballina players theatre productions, encouragement of youth interest in local theatre The workshops have been very popular and usually book out weeks before they are due to begin.
The first workshop for 2015 will be held Monday 13th April-Thursday 16th April at Ballina Players Theatre (Swift Street, Ballina). Workshop times are 9:00am to 3:00pm days 1-3 and 12 noon to 6:00pm on Day 4 (Concert at 5pm). It costs $160 and is open to children and youth from 5 to 16 years.
