Staging is a revue, consisting of 39 pieces of music. They were created by the legendary creative duo Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller in 50-60 years of the 20th century. At the time, the compositions were included in the repertoire of such famous singers like Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Peggy Lee, Bobby Darin, The Drifters and others, eg “Love Potion #9”, “Hound Dog”, “Spanish Harlem” and “Stand By Me” This revue differs with complete absence of storyline and dialogues. The show is a so-called “jukebox” where all the songs follow each other in a single stream. Classic American hits of rhythm and blues, and rock ‘n’ roll are performed by five men and four women. It is the longest running Revue in Broadway history.
The show is based on the songs of Leiber and Stoller, their songs were hits for Elvis Presley, The Coasters, Ben E King, Peggy Lee and the Monkees, the cast is 5 Males, 4 Females. Smokey Joes was the longest running Musical Revue on Broadway, it ran for 2036 performances, nominated 7 times for best musical, it won a Grammy in 1996. The show has 40 songs from the Rock n Roll era with no dialogue, it is through choreography the cast interpret these songs in the style of this highly recognizable time in history of petticoats, high heels, sneakers, sideburns, Jive, Boogie Woogie Drive-In Movies. Songs include Jailhouse Rock, Ruby Baby, Kansas City, On Broadway, Poison Ivy, Yakety Yak, Treat Me Nice, Hound Dog, Little Egypt, Love Potion No 9, Spanish Harlem and Stand By Me. The show is just one fun song after another, it’s a feel-good fun musical. The production is scheduled 1 June – 24 July for 13 performances.
